After high school, Bill briefly went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad before joining the US Marine Corp in June 1970. Upon discharge from the military, he returned to Oakridge and resumed his railroad career. When Bill retired in 2016, he had worked for Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroads for 48 years.
Bill married Bev Tillotson on May 10, 1974 in Oakridge. In the first few years of their marriage they moved often throughout Oregon for his job and then settled in Springfield, Oregon for the remainder of his life. They took care of Bev’s mom for 16 years until her passing.
Bill and Bev enjoyed traveling to Mexico for vacationing. They also enjoyed crossword puzzles, movies, following the U of O Football and especially their animals. Bill leaves his mini-Aussie puppy, Bernie.
Bill was diagnosed with stage four renal cell carcinoma in June, 2014. He passed on January 21, 2018 of complications from the disease. He received excellent care from the Willamette Valley Cancer Center in Eugene, Oregon. A Special gratitude to Dr. Jeff Sharman and Nurse Becca.
